Missionaries to Lithuania

Home Church Couple to Lithuania

Rola and I are excited—along with some anxiety—about our missional undertaking in Lithuania

where for the next year I will be teaching at LCC International University (formerly called

Lithuania Christian College).

Last year, I started praying about serving overseas as a college professor with the possibility of

sharing the gospel with students. It’s amazing how everything came together (certainly Spirit

led) as we were invited to LCC.

The ministry

I’ll teach composition, media writing, and creative writing. These are subjects that allow me to

explore with students big questions such as “Why am I here?”, “Who is my neighbor?”, and

“How am I to live in this world?”. All these questions point to the Kingdom and our savior Jesus

Christ.

Also, we’ll have the privilege of engaging young people in critical conversations that offer the

opportunity to encounter Christ. This could be through activities such as Sunday night chili

suppers, pizza and bible studies, lunch-time meetings in the cafeteria, or coffee (of course).

Lithuania is in northeastern Europe and was part of the Soviet Union until 1991. That same

year, a group of Lithuanian, Canadian, and American Christians founded LCC. The university

draws students from over 60 countries and is the only Christian liberal arts college in the region.

Because professors teach without pay, LCC is able to keep tuition extremely low. Upon

graduation, these students will return home, hopefully transformed by the gospel and their

experience at LCC, and become sowers of God’s good news.

Invitation to share in our journey

First and foremost, please pray that we have opportunities to develop relationships with

students and staff so that we can be part of planting and nurturing their Christian faith.

Also, you can provide support and care by keeping in touch with us (sowienski@gmail.com). Let

us know how everything is on the home front. Home Church is our home.

You may also support our missional journey financially by going to this online donation form:

https://www.classy.org/give/382560/#!/donation/checkout. Zelle is another no-cost giving

option: use their email uscharity@lcc.lt to register LCC as a Zelle recipient in your account. Their

enrolled name is “LCC International Fund Inc”.

Next stop: Klaipeda, Lithuania, and our home in the dorm. (Rola has already claimed the top

bunk!) Look for future updates.
